Old Royal High School - Appeal

The appeal process requested by the Duddingston Hotel Properties group against the refusal of planning permission for the old Royal High School site by the City of Edinburgh Council took place in September and October 2018. Our chair, Carol Nimmo and committee member Ruth Macdonald were among the witnesses arguing that the hotel plans should be rejected and the plans for a Music School accepted (you can see webcasts of the proceedings by accessing this link here).

The reporters appointed by the Scottish Government have written their report on the appeal and have sent their report to the Scottish Minister. We are waiting for Kevin Stewart, the Scottish government minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning to make a decision.

We strongly urge all our local residents to write to the MSPs representing your area to lobby the Scottish government to reject the appeal. For most of the residents in the Terraces our constituency is Central Edinburgh and our MSP is Ruth Davidson. Our regional MSPs are Miles Briggs, Alison Johnstone, Neil Findlay, Gordon Lindhurst, Sarah Boyack, Jeremy Balfour and Andy Wightman.

RRCTMA sent a letter to all 129 MSPs at the beginning of 2020 as a reminder that neighbours are very concerned about the outcome for this iconic and valued building which sits in our boundary.
